109. How to Start a New Year

If you were going to cook a meal the chances are that you would clear away the remains of the last meal before you started. If you're out picking up bargains in the January sales, no doubt you will be clearing some old clothes out of your wardrobe at some point. Interestingly we don't tend to do the same thing when starting a new year, and yet, what better way to start the year afresh than to 'clear up' the year before! I have heard more than one person say that they will not be sorry to say goodbye to 2013. By that one assumes that all has not gone well. The word celebration has been largely hijacked in our society by Christmas, New Year and birthdays. Throw in wedding anniversaries, new babies and the odd passed exam and that just about sums up our ideas of celebration. We tend to think of money simply as something we must have in order to buy what we want and need in life, and yet when you really think about it you start to realise that it is much more complex than that. For some, money is about material possessions, for others security, for others an indication of personal value, as in wealth, earnings, or gifts. For others money means love, power, kindness, compassion, control - just about anything you can think of in fact. This week's tip is a story about money and what it can mean.
